The recent proposal of finance minister Ivan Miklos to block online gambling sites that are avoiding paying taxes has not only met with opposition from various interest groups, but also now from justice minister Lucia Zitnanska.
Zitnanska doesn’t agree with the system as it deals with sensitive issues about internet censorship, while others claim it interferes with people’s right of choice. Another problem is that the system used to select which sites would or would not be accessible is arbitrary and could be abused.
The idea is to allow tax office employees to decide which sites should be blocked as part of a changing list that would be updated every two weeks or so. The idea could easily crumble for technical reasons, though, while applying the system would also be costly for internet providers.
